Malware, also known as scumware, short for malicious software. It’s designed to secretly access a computer system without the owner’s informed consent. Some malware programs have been written with a profit motive ( financial or otherwise ) in mind. This can be taken as the malware authors’ choice to monetize their control over infected systems: to turn that control into a source of revenue.

Some malware are produced to gathering information of the victim activities and then showing pop-up advertising, it’s known as Adware. Some adware programs will redirect to search engine results to paid advertisements. Another way that financially motivated malware creators, use sensitive information from a victim. In this case, some malware program install a key logger that will automatically transmitted a password, credit card number, account and other information to the malware creator. It’s called Stealware, example of this type of malware : bancos, Gator, Legmir and Qhost. So, It’s very dangerous ….! In this post, we will explain how to protect our system from malware.

integrated Antivirus and Anti Malware, for total protection

  1. We need security tools to protect from malware and if we have no budget, we can get free security software like Avast Home Edition, AVG Free or Comodo Internet Security, also knows as Comodo Personal Firewall.
  2. The most favorite target of the malware programs is the Windows Registry on MS Windows Operating System and make changes to it. In this case, we need programs or software to protect it, such RegRunner. RegRunner is a real time monitoring program that is designed to alert whenever a key or value of the windows registry is added or changed. If we don’t recognize a change, we can block or delete it.
  3. We also need to protect against rootkits. Rootkits render malicious program / software seemingly invisible on our system. There are several free anti-rootkit programs designed specifically for this case, such McAfee Rootkit Detectice, Sophos Anti Rootkit and F-Secure BlackLight.
  4. Another type of the malware program is software robots or bots. It’s secretly take control of our system and use it to send spam or create DDoS attacks. In this case, we can check using Trend Micro RUBotted.
  5. If we don’t have an antivirus or anti malware program installed on our system, we try an online scanner : Trend Micro HouseCall, Kaperskey Online Virus Scanner, BitDefender Online Scanner and Panda ActiveScan.
  6. Keep our system up to date. We can configure our system to automatically downloads the latest versions or latest hot fix.
  7. Scan our memory for threats with memory scanner like ThreatExpert Memory Scanner.

As malware attacks become more frequent, so we need a program have been developed to spesically combat them. A program anti malware is now available in two ways to combat malware :

  1. This programs, anti malware, it can provide real time protection against the automatically installation of malware software, the same way as that of antivirus protection.
  2. Anti Malware can be used for detection and removal of malware that has already been installed onto our sytem.

If we want practical, and there is a surplus budget, we can use paid program that has integrated anti virus and anti malware, such Norton Internet Security or McAfee Total Protection.
